Darwin D. May

Darwin May’s banking career began at a community bank in the St. Louis area. After various assignments with Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles, he joined the former Merchants National Bank of Indianapolis (then by merger National City and PNC) where he held several retail positions before being promoted to the residential mortgage loan department and subsequently named its manager.

Darwin was later promoted to the bank’s Investment Real Estate Division, where he financed commercial real estate, including apartment complexes, office buildings and retail shopping centers. There he managed loan portfolios ranging from $45 to $60 million dollars.

Later, May became the Executive Director of National City’s Community Development Assn. Under his leadership, the company provided equity investments in urban and rural low -moderate income neighborhoods and oversaw the bank’s investment in low income housing tax credits throughout the state of Indiana. During his tenure, the CDA invested in excess of $200 million dollars.

When promoted to Senior Vice President, Darwin assumed the additional responsibilities of managing National City’s Public Affairs area, which included charitable contributions, sponsorships, and legislative initiatives

Post retirement, May activated his long held real estate broker’s license, establishing May Realtors, LLC, offering residential and commercial brokerage services. As Managing Broker, May Realtors concentrates on delivering the highest level of service to every client.

May earned a BS in Business Management from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He currently serves on Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis Athletic Director’s Advisory Board and is a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school. Past board positions include the Great Lakes Capital Fund, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Washington Township School Board and Ronald McDonald House.
